Marvel fans, get excited, because the universe has expanded with a very welcome addition. Disney+ has finally given us Ms. Marvel, and fans are applauding its “genuine heart”.

What do we know so far? MCU's newest superhero is Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. Outside of school, she's a gamer and an imaginative fan-fiction writer – particularly when it comes to the Avengers and her favourite superhero, Captain Marvel.

According to the show's synopsis things soon start to change for the teenager. "Kamala feels invisible both at home and at school – that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?" Right.

What is the plot of Ms. Marvel?

Our heroine Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel (a great superhero name, if we do say so) as she tries to balance high school life, her family and her emerging super powers. All set to the epic soundtrack of The Weeknd's Blinding Lights, of course.

No doubt we'll see her come up against a lot of the issues teenagers face today, as well as some supernatural occurrences.

As Marvel's first Muslim superhero, we see elements of Kamala's culture in the trailer, too, including her praying at a Mosque and dancing in Pakistani dress. In one key line in the teaser, we hear her say: "It's not really the brown girls from Jersey City... who save the world."

What is the hype for Ms. Marvel all about?

Twitter has been set alight the last few weeks with praise for the show, particularly in terms of the representation it provides for Pakistani communities.

One fan tweeted: “As a Pakistani who just got to experience the representation that is #msmarvel I want to take a sec to appreciate the black community who w/o their hype we would not have had Black Panther & w/o black panther there would be no Shang-Chi or #kamalakhan when 1 of us win. We all win."

"For everyone that says "ms marvel was bad", it wasn't made for you," another tweeted. “It was made for an audience that was always shamed for embracing their culture, an audience that never felt seen, an audience that had to watch movies with predominantly white characters for so many years.”

On top of that, the show is already beloved because of its completely amazing characters, superhero or no superhero.

“It's official: Ms. Marvel is my favourite MCU television series, and not by a small margin,” one fan tweeted. “Iman Vellani is delightful and a natural as Kamala Khan, and Kamala's friends, family and community give the series genuine heart. Would watch this cast even without the superhero stuff.”

In an interview with The Guardian, Ms. Marvel herself Iman Vellani summarised how the TV show potrays an important element of so many peoples' lives, that perhaps hasn't been considered enough in the past – it authentically shows how someone's life intersects and balances with their religion when they're young.

“We’re the first show that showcases religion, school-life balance – and it’s done so seamlessly, I feel," she says. “It’s very much like how it is in my real life: I go to school at this time, I have dinner at this time, I go to mosque at this time, I sleep at this time. It’s just a part of my schedule. And it feels like that when you watch the show, too.”
