Somewhat melancholy, it was a tweet from Michele thanking fans for their support following the death of Cory Monteith - retweeted a whopping 408,000 times at its peak, that became the most retweeted message of the year.
Meanwhile, unsurprisingly tweets from the account One Direction took three of the top five retweet positions. The band rank amongst the most peeps follewed collectively, with more than 29 million unique followers worldwide. That's a lot of Directioners.
A tweet from Niall Horan regarding his 20th birthday peaked at 375,000 retweets, while Zayn Malik took 344,000 for a cheeky pic of fellow bandmate Harry Styles sleeping, and a further 336,000 retweets when he thanked fellow Tweeters for congratulations following his engagement to Little Mix's Perrie Edwards.
Completing the top five was Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker, when his team took to his official Twitter account to confirm the actor's death on December 1 - which racked up 400,000 retweets.
