We tried Milk Makeup's Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss in *blue* and now we're wearing it daily

Everyone wanted to give this bluey iridescent hue a proper go.
Reviewing the Milk Makeup Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss

When an exciting product drops in the GLAMOUR beauty desk, best believe you'll have the whole office scrambling to see what the fuss is about. Milk Makeup has just launched the Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss, £24 – a sweet hybrid between something bold and fun, yet nourishing and comfortable to wear – and swatch upon swatch, the team was hooked. When we discovered the shade “Globetrot", and it was a gasp, followed by silence and stillness, followed by “I NEED!”. Everyone wanted to give this bluey iridescent hue a proper go.

Milk has been famous for its Hydro Grip Primers, £35, Cult Beauty and their Sculpt Sticks, £22, Cult Beauty - but this new range of lip glosses might just creep its way up to legendary status. The formula goes beyond the pretty sheen you see at first glance. It's designed to be a potent lip enhancer infused with jojoba oil and goji berry extract to lock in moisture and keep lips looking healthy and radiant overtime.

There is a slight grain, yes. This is because that high-shine comes from crushed sapphires and ruby gemstones that give that an unparalleled level of gleam that make the oil-gloss so mesmerising and iridescent.

Sounds pretty incred, right? Here, five GLAMOUR staffers with different complexions try the Milk Makeup Odyssey Lip Oil Gloss in the shade Globetrot and here are their truest and most honest thoughts.

Long gone are the days of a matte lip. I'm all about the gloss, regardless of how messy they can get. I was excited to try this iridescent, glazed, blue tinted, Milk Makeup oil-gloss hybrid because I usually just stick to a clear hue, but I'm feeling rather experimental.

The doe foot wand is perfectly shaped to contour top and bottom lips in a single swipe. The formula is soft, with a slight grain for the glitter particles, but it still feels comfortable on the lips. As for the iridescent blue hue itself? Sure, it's unconventional, and pretty bold, but someway, somehow it was still pretty flattering on my dual coloured lips and my dark complexion. In fact, almost mesmerising.

If you like to play it safe, it might be a bit much. However, I wore it around the office for a few days and received so many compliments, so it's only right I make it a staple…

I wasn't really sure what to expect with this gloss, it was giving me serious Jack Frost vibes. I'm not one to opt for a crazy colour on the lips, but I was holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, it would work. Let me start by saying that the texture of this gloss is gorgeous.

It feels really nourishing on the lips, and doesn't have a trace of the sticky, tacky feeling you get with some glosses. The colour, however, was not for me. It looked like it clashed with my skin tone a bit, and I felt like it just made me look cold. If I tried another more wearable colour I'm sure I'd love it, though.

I love a good lip oil, but have to admit I was wary of trying a cooler shade out as I tend to favour warmer colours. Having said that, on application of Globetrot, I was immediately impressed with the texture of the product and how it glided on without feeling sticky.

And beyond applying like a dream, it also had a caramel sweet scent that added another delicious dimension. Though the lip oil seems blue on application this dries to a beautiful iridescent sheen, giving off a finish that would elevate any night out look. It was giving major y2k prom energy in the best possible way, and I'm glad to say that I've been proved wrong on cooler shades not pairing well with my skin tone.

I'd never normally choose a blue lip gloss but I was surprised by how much I liked this. When first applied it gives a subtle sci-fi, cold girl twist to my otherwise classic makeup that, actually, I can get on board with.

The blue pigment helps make teeth appear whiter too (always a bonus), but over time it fades to a really pretty, sheer glistening gloss that makes lips look plump and full. It's going in the handbag, which is high praise indeed.

I was really excited to try out this lipgloss after blue makeup was everywhere at London Fashion Week. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the cute packaging and the beautiful sky-blue shimmer in the gloss.

On application, the sweet fragrance was really pleasant and the thick formula applied seamlessly on my lips. You can really feel the combination of oil and gloss, making it super hydrating and non-sticky.

Although I was surprised at how subtle the blue in the ‘Globetrot’ shade was, personally I don’t think that my complexion suits a cool-toned lip. Despite this, I would love to try it in a different shade as I can definitely see it quickly becoming my go-to lip product.
