Queen of our screens and stealer of hearts, Maura Higgins is bringing her wit and charm to the big screen — and yes, this is not a drill. The Love Island star, famous for coining “fanny flutters” and dominating The Traitors US, is heading home for a feel-good Irish road trip. She's also known as an all-around beauty icon.
Higgins makes her feature-length acting debut in The Spin, joined by Pussycat Dolls star Kimberley Wyatt.
A quirky, off-the-wall buddy movie, The Spin is based on a semi-autobiographical short story by Omagh musician Mark McCausland, who also contributes to the film’s folk soundtrack. It's got music, besties, a road trip, and plenty of laughs along the way.
Here’s everything we know about Maura Higgins’ acting debut and The Spin.
It's set to be a ‘Four-Film Cinematic Event’.

Is there a trailer for The Spin?
Yep, check out this musical shenanigans now.
What is The Spin about?
This sweet and uplifting Irish road movie from filmmaker Michael Head (Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire) delivers plenty of laughs as it follows Dermot (Brenock O’Connor) and Elvis (Owen Colgan), two music lovers running a struggling record shop in Omagh, Northern Ireland.
With an unpaid rent bill looming and their vicious landlord, Sadie (Tara Lynne O’Neill from Derry Girls), eager to kick them out, the duo stumbles across a deal too good to be true: rare vintage records of blues legend Robert Johnson for sale in Cork at a bargain price. If they can make it across Ireland in time, they might just save the shop.
With only two days to get there, they set off in a rusty, well-worn Vauxhall. Along the way, they encounter locals, forge new friendships, and navigate the beauty of their journey.
The film also features cameos from Irish music royalty, including Barry Devlin (Horslips) and Steve Wickham (The Waterboys).
Who will Maura Higgins play in The Spin?
We’re still waiting on more details, but we do know a character name: Higgins will be playing Rose.
Speaking about her role in the film, Maura said, “The Irish are known for our storytelling, so it felt fitting that my acting debut would be in an Irish film.”
“Being on set was an incredible experience, and I enjoyed every moment! I play the character of Rose, the girlfriend of Dermot, a down-on-his-luck record store owner,” she continued.
“Although I am comfortable in front of the camera, it did still feel nerve-wracking at first, but chatting with the brilliant cast and crew helped me relax.”
Judging from these stills and the trailer, she did an incredible job.
When will The Spin be released?
This isn’t a streaming binge — it’s a proper trip to the cinema! The Spin hits UK and Irish cinemas on 27th February.
We'll keep you posted on more updates, but we know where to find Maura Higgins fans on the 27th!
