Marisa Tomei has joined the star-studded cast of US television show Empire.
The actress will play Mimi Whiteman, a venture capitalist and Forbes list billionaire who is "a lover of hip hop music, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women". This series already features Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Alicia Keys.
The first season saw Courtney Love, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg and Naomi Campbell play guest roles. For those unfamiliar with Empire, it's a family drama set in the world of hip-hop.
Tomei is also working on a HBO miniseries on legendary feminist Gloria Steinem, in which she plays the lead.
