Love Island: All Stars is back — and with it, some of the most memorable ex-islanders from the show's history. Amongst the returning love-seeking contestants are Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen who, as Love Island stans will remember, were a super-strong couple in their season of Love Island before breaking up a few months after the show's final. Marcel went on to marry Rebecca Vieira in 2022 — and in the first episode of the show, he shocked viewers and islanders alike when he implied that he was… still married?
He told The Sun: "I filed for divorce last year, we’re currently separated, I am single – but divorces can take a certain period of time."

What happened between Gabby and Marcel in Love Island season 3?
First, a quick refresher of Marcel's time on Love Island back in 2017. Marcel entered the villa as one of the OG boys. When Gabby entered the following week, sparks flew and they soon coupled up. Despite a few hiccups (it is Love Island after all), the pair stayed strong until the final when they came in fourth place.
At first, the pair seemed to be thriving outside of the villa. However, they split in May 2018 after Gabby discovered that Marcel had cheated on her during a holiday a few months earlier.
“Obviously, I made my mistake, put my hands up, but after that situation we did actually bump into each other and have a conversation and talk about everything, hugged it out and it was a very amicable ending to our life," Marcel later told the Mirror.

Marcel's marriage to Rebecca Vieira
That same year, Marcel met social media influencer Rebecca Vieira during a night out. The pair went on to welcome a son, Roman, in 2021, and to marry in August 2022.
In 2024, Rebecca allegedly sent some flirtatious messages to American rapper Slim Jxmmi.
“Marcel is absolutely devastated,” a source said to the Mirror in February 2024. “Rebecca was his life and he’s changed so many things about his lifestyle to make her happy. The poor guy feels like he’s in a nightmare and he keeps hoping he’ll wake up. To know that Rebecca was telling another man she loves him, and then spent Valentine’s Day with him has completely broken him. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do now, but he’s moved out of the family home.”
In the wake of the tabloid frenzy that followed, Marcel unfollowed his wife on social media and filed for divorce in March. Rebecca herself made a statement, seemingly taking responsibility for her actions.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: "By now most of you would have seen what's going on, I've made a huge mistake, I've embarrassed not only my husband but myself and both our families. My actions were foolish and have hurt so many people around us but most importantly my husband. I've said a lot of things that I shouldn't have and it was stupid of me so I won't sit here and justify my actions, those decisions should have never been made.
“I want to publicly apologise to my Marcel, just as loudly as the rest of the noise. For all the hurt, embarrassment and pain I have put him through there is nothing and no one in the world that comes before you and our family. No-one could ever compare.”
In Tuesday night's episode, Marcel opened up to Gabby about the split. "I tried to make it with her and tried to make it work, but it was like, every day I was waking up and just being like, ‘I can’t… I can’t do this,’" he said. “You know when you are unhappy and you just know you’re unhappy?”
Is Marcel still married?
The short answer is… yes. Marcel Somerville is both a Love Island contestant and, technically, a married man. But, as Marcel explained in a recent interview, their relationship is over and they're in the midst of finalising a divorce.
“I had to tell Rebecca that I wasn’t going to be around for a few weeks. She said, 'I can't believe this. I can't believe this is happening,'” Marcel told the Mirror. “But she's got to a point of understanding that our relationship has broken down. We’re going through a divorce. It’s got to get to a point where we have to start moving forward and living our lives separately.”
He went on, “She was she wasn't expecting it to happen, but she’s become accepting of the situation because she made a mistake. I can’t put my life on hold when opportunities like this come up.”
