Today it was confirmed that Marc Jacobs would be leaving Louis Vuitton after 16 years (sob!), to concentrate on his own label. Responsible for some of the most memorable shows (and most impressive sets) in catwalk history, we count down our fave MJ for Louis Vuitton moments.
1. His First Show
A more bashful man than the impeccably toned, taught designer who takes his bow on the catwalk now, here's Marc after his very first Autumn/Winter 1998 collection for Louis Vuitton (which was pretty minimal, in true 90s style).
2. Naughty Nurses
Ooh, matron! The naughty nurses dressed in latex caused a huge buzz at Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2008 show.
3. Afros on the Catwalk
From bold monogrammed denim to giant fluffy keychains and huge afro hair, bigger was better at Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2008 show.
4. Return of the Lady
Jacobs heralded the return of ladylike style and embracing a fuller, more feminine shape with his bustier models (Lara Stone and Laetitia Casta among them) wearing full skirts and figure-hugging tops for Autumn/Winter 2010.
6. Taste of the Orient
The Spring/Summer 2011 collection looked east with kimonos and rich jewel tones, with flapper girl dresses and kiss-curl hairstyles added in for good measure.
7. Feather Dusters and French Maids
The Night Porter-themed show for Autumn/Winter 2011 had models wearing military hats, and those dressed with French maids carrying feather dusters. Naughty.
8. Kate Moss Smoking
The same show got even naughtier when Kate Moss went down the runway - smoking.
9. Kate Moss...Again
Another Kate Moss moment for Spring/Summer 2012 - kicking off the show on a carousel, the supermodel later stole the show in this uber-girly broderie anglaise confection.
10. All Aboard!
The giant train for Autumn/Winter 2012 = one of the most impressive catwalk settings yet.
11. Love in an Elevator
Twin models, chessboard checks, and a catwalk with its own elevator = a formula for creating the most buzzed-about show of the season.
12. Marc in his PJs
Appearing to take his bow in an array of awesome outfits (kilts, anyone?) - the PJ's Jacobs wore last season for his hotel-themed catwalk setting was our favourite yet.
13. A Fond Farewell
His final show was a greatest hits, with all-black attire props that harked back to former shows (a black carousel) and a showgirl theme.
