With “quiet luxury” picking up over 102 million views on TikTok for its understated approach to fashion, it was only a matter of time before beauty tapped in. “Luxe blonde” is one very sleek example and chances are, you'll be seeing loads of it this summer.
The principle of quiet luxury is to forgo flashy designer labels or shouty pieces in favour of quality basics that look rich (but don't necessarily have to cost loads). And, while the trend is not without its problems (namely, promoting elitism), there's no denying the aesthetic has gone stratospheric with a whole division of TikTok tapping into their quiet luxury era.
Tailoring is important, to create a beautifully fitting silhouette, and colour palette makes a difference, too, with monochromatic tones creating co-ordination. Black or neutral tailored trousers with a simple but good-quality T-shirt won't reinvent the wheel, but it looks polished and expensive without trying too hard.
Likewise, blonde is a classic, but by paying attention to detail, you can elevate it to a whole new swish level, which is exactly what luxe blonde seeks to do. The trend doesn't refer to one colour specifically, but to a technique that creates a beautifully illuminated blonde by introducing subtle, seamless dimension that looks luxurious, without you being able to place your finger on exactly why.
Celebrity adopters of the hair colour include Sofia Richie whose simple centre-parted chignon at her wedding was levelled-up with her glossy, mellow blonde.

Even though her colour isn't bold and trail-blazing, it's undeniably stunning.

Another long-time fan, is Beyonce, who calls on her colourist, Rita Hazan, to create a deliciously multi-tonal blonde.

As for what to ask your colourist for in the salon, we spoke to top London colourist, Gemma Smidmore who told us, “pretty, tiny, extra fine babylights (and lots of them) is the way forward.” She explained: “you want zero, or as little bleach as possible to keep that shine, health and extra luxe blonde.” Overall, as with quiet luxury, subtly is key. “It shouldn't look like you have highlights, it should look like a seamless glow,” she says.

To boost glow, Gemma says a K-18 treatment “in salon before and after colouring the hair is a must.” And to keep it going at home, “my favourite go-to, two weeks after having your colour done, is the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer once a week or every other,” she says.

So, for swishy hair that's quietly mesmerising, luxe blonde is the one to have on your radar.
