I'll be the first to admit I did not expect to find a feminist icon in the TV show Love Island . But during last night's Miss Love Island 2016 contest (bear with me), Sophie Gradon kind of really impressed me with her empowering speech - and it seems I'm not the only one to think so.

The speech was delivered as a tribute to former contestant Zara Holland, who was stripped of her Miss Great Britain title after having sex on the show. This decision was met with outrage by some.

Speaking in front of the Island's boys, Sophie said:

"Life shouldn't be about judging one another. For example, judging a young woman for enjoying herself."

She continued: "A young woman who hasn't harmed anyone but a woman who has faced a torrent of judgemental and close minded opinions since leaving Love Island. As an ex Miss Newscastle and Miss GB I can say that it's time people moved forward from their old fashioned thinking and accepted the simple fact that women like to have sex."

While Zara's decision to have sex on TV was controversial, the point of Sophie's speech is clear: we need to stop judging and shaming women for enjoying sex and being open about it.

Opening up my Twitter app after the episode finished, I realised I wasn't the only one who had been a bit impressed:
