As a beauty writer, I’m constantly testing products that promise brighter, smoother, more awake-looking skin. And honestly? When it comes to the eye area, I’m especially picky. The skin under your eyes is delicate – mine can be sensitive – and if something is going anywhere close, at 7am before a day of meetings, press events and trying to look vaguely well-rested, it needs to pull its weight.

That’s exactly why I wanted to properly put the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift 2.5% Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum to the test. It’s not exactly a new launch, but it is one of those products that has become a bit of an OG in the skincare world. I've been a beauty journalist for six years, meaning I get sent data on Amazon's bestselling beauty buys on the regular – and after this eye serum went viral, it has continued to top those lists. Plus, it has thousands of glowing reviews to back it up.

To me, L’Oréal is also one of those brands that feels personal. I grew up watching both my mum and grandma use L’Oréal – those iconic red and gold bottles lining their dressing tables – so there’s a level of nostalgia and trust here.

How I tested L’Oréal’s Revitalift Eye Serum:

Shani Cohen applying the L’Oréal’s Revitalift Eye Serum

I tested this eye serum for around four weeks so I could get a real feel for how it worked on my skin, rather than giving it the usual quick try and calling it a day. I mostly used it first thing in the morning because that’s when my skin is crying out for hydration, and when my under-eyes tend to look the puffiest.

As a beauty writer, I have busy days that can range from press events to back-to-back meetings, so what goes on my face is genuinely important to me. I paid attention to the ingredient list, how it felt on my sensitive eye area, how well it layered with the rest of my skincare, whether it disrupted my makeup, and most importantly, whether I could actually see a difference.

I also took before-and-after photos for this piece so I could properly track what it looked like on my skin with absolutely nothing else on it, and also took a photo with a full face of make up so you can see how it sat underneath my concealer and foundation.

Why you can trust me:

I’ve been a beauty writer for six years - five at The Mirror and the past year at Glamour - and testing skincare, haircare and makeup is part of my job. That means, I take what I put on my skin seriously - especially when it comes to products that are going near my eyes.

For every piece I write, I speak to dermatologists and skincare experts to get their take and help answer the questions you actually want to know. I also test products on my own skin and always give my honest opinion. If I love something, I’ll say it. If I don’t, I’ll say that too.

Also, hyaluronic acid has been a big part of my skincare routine for years now. It’s one of those ingredients I always come back to because my skin leans dry, and it’s brilliant for giving that plump, hydrated look. Luckily, it’s also one of those ingredients that turns up in everything these days, from moisturisers and serums to foundations and skin tints.

My experience using L’Oréal Revitalift 2.5% Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum

A few years ago, eye serums didn’t really feel like a product category I thought much about. But fast forward to now, I’ve recently turned 30, and I’ve definitely become more focused on taking care of my eye area - especially seeing as it’s one of the first places to show signs ageing.

The first thing I noticed about this product was the applicator, which is easily the standout feature. It has a triple stainless steel rollerball tip that glides over the skin and instantly feels cooling. I actually popped it in the fridge before using it, which made it feel even better in the mornings. As someone who can wake up with quite puffy eyes, especially if I’ve had a busy week, it genuinely felt soothing and helped calm everything down almost straight away.

The formula itself is powered by macro and micro hyaluronic acid to help plump and smooth the skin, alongside 4% niacinamide to brighten and caffeine to energise the eye area. Basically, it’s ticking all the boxes you’d want from an under-eye product: hydration, depuffing and a little bit of brightness.

As soon as I applied it, my under-eyes looked fresher and less puffy, and it glided onto the skin really nicely. I don’t actually have particularly deep dark circles, partly because I had polynucleotides (aka salmon sperm) injected into them a few months back, so I can’t say loads on how much it changed them specifically. But I can say that I looked noticeably more awake, and that was mostly down to how much more refreshed and de-puffed my under-eye area looked.

Texture-wise, it glides on beautifully. It does leave a slightly tacky finish initially - which I wasn’t obsessed with - but once I layered concealer on top, it didn’t interfere or cause any creasing. In fact, my makeup sat really nicely over it which is pretty rare for an eye serum.

After using it consistently for four weeks, the main difference I noticed was how much more hydrated and smooth my under-eye area looked. It made that whole area feel softer, plumper and generally a bit more alive - which, as someone who is often running from one thing to the next, is exactly the kind of result I want from a morning skincare step.

How to use the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift eye serum:

Apply it onto thoroughly cleansed, dry skin every morning and evening. L’Oréal recommends massaging it in small circles from the inner corner of the eye up to the temple, repeating four times, then gently smoothing it over the eyelids. You finish by applying light pressure to the six points indicated on the packaging.

Personally, I loved using it in the morning most, especially when the applicator had been chilling in the fridge first.

Is L’Oréal Paris Revitalift 2.5% Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum worth it?

I was so impressed with how well the serum worked underneath my makeup.

I’d say yes - especially if your main concerns are puffiness, dehydration and wanting to look a bit more awake without doing 10 different steps.

It’s not one of those products that’s going to transform your face overnight, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But if you want an affordable eye serum that feels nice to use, gives instant cooling relief, and genuinely helps the under-eye area look smoother and fresher, I can absolutely see why it’s remained so popular.

For me, it’s the kind of product that earns its place through consistency. It’s easy to use, it works well with the rest of my routine, and it makes me look a bit more alive on mornings when I really need the help. And honestly, sometimes that’s all I’m asking for.

FAQ’s:

Meet the expert:

Dr Aiza JamilConsultant Dermatologist.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant that attracts water, locking in moisture and keeping the skin plump and hydrated. This should be applied to clean slightly damp skin, to ensure the molecule binds water effectively. This allows the hyaluronic acid to attract moisture from the environment and lock in.”

Can you use the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum everyday?

“Yes, it is appropriate to use it once or even twice daily. It claims to be fragrance-free, ophthalmologist-tested, and suitable for sensitive eye areas, so should be safe for use daily as intended. Also, the ingredients are quite gentle, with 1.5 to 2.5% of hyaluronic acid, which should be low enough not to irritate with daily use.”

Is the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum worth it?

“It is a good option if you are looking for a gentle formula that will plump, hydrate and brighten the eyes on a budget, however, and this is with many eye products, don’t expect miracles. It will have temporary effects such as short-term plumping and hydration, but these will most likely fade with time when you stop using the product. For deeper issues such as genetic dark circles, deep wrinkles, and hollow under-eyes, this most likely won’t be enough to help these issues.”

What ingredients stand out in this eye serum?

“The hyaluronic acid stands out to be as it is at a low enough percentage that it shouldn’t irritate with consistent use, but should hydrate and plump the skin daily. Caffeine is also a great addition as it helps reduce puffiness under the eyes, and niacinamide brightens and helps to support the skin barrier. Ascorbyl Glucoside is a gentler form of vitamin C which is more stable and less irritating for the eye area, and has antioxidant protection and can cause mild brightening. I also like that there is Glycerin in there as it is also a humectant like hyaluronic acid, so it pulls water into the skin and works alongside hyaluronic acid to support hydration.”

What results should I expect to see?

“You would expect to see the skin around the eye more plump and hydrated, which will help with reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, if they are deep-set wrinkles, genetically darker under eyes, or hollow under eyes, this may not be supportive enough for these issues.”
