In a Grimm twist, getting home on time was the least of Cinderella's worries yesterday.
Actress Lily James found herself in a bit of a pickle on the set of her latest flick as her fairytale gown caught fire during filming.
The Downton Abbey starlet was busy shooting the live-action Disney extravaganza Cinderella at Pinewood Studios when her lavish wedding gown became ablaze. The 24-year-old, who plays the eponymous fairytale heroine, was sporting the infamous bridal dress - a voluminous, three miles of hemming covered in Swarovski crystals which covers so much square footage, Lily can't always see what's in front of her - when the gown brushed against a heater…
"It had turned really cold and someone had put a three-bar heater a bit too close to where Lily was going to sit on a stool,' explained costume designer, Sandy Powell, before adding: "Luckily, just a segment of the silk dress got burnt. Thank God Lily wasn't harmed."
Lily told UK reporters, "I wore this wedding dress for about 20 seconds before I walked past the heater and burned some of it," revealing that she was in tears at first until Ben Chaplin - who plays Cinderella's father - lightened the mood by saying: "Well, I'll wait a while before I make the Cinders joke."
Lily said: "I went: 'Oh, no!' And I was laughing through my tears. I was fine. I wasn't hurt, just a bit shocked for a little while."
Combustible costumes aside, Lily also revealed she's been having "a ball" working with director Kenneth Branagh and a bevy of leading ladies, including Cate Blanchett as her wicked-ish step-mother, Helena Bonham Carter as her fairy godmother ,and Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera as Cinderella's step-sisters. GLAMOUR.com favourite Richard Madden - AKA Robb Stark in Game of Thrones (yum) - will be starring as the dashing Prince Charming.
