Just as we suspected - Lauren Conrad's purple hair was actually an April Fools' Joke.

The designer and former reality star blogged about a supposed hair change on April 1, saying she "really didn't think that purple was my colour, but after seeing several others wear it recently, I decided to give it a try".

Seeing as Lauren had talked about how she didn't like the lilac hair trend, we were a little sceptical she'd gone for the new 'do - we thought she might have done a Nicole Ritchie and photoshopped her lilac hair. Turns out we were right!

Conrad's hairstylist Kristin Ess joked on Instagram: "To get this exact shade of purple, we went out and gathered rare amethyst stones. Next, we ground them up by hand until they turned into a fine powder. Then we added 2 pinches of grape koolaid. Mix that in a bowl with 2 oz. of mermaid tears. Apply all over and let it sit for 16 hours. Lather, rinse, repeat. #aprilfoolsyall#shedoesntevenlikepurple"

And Lauren confirmed the news herself on her website:

"Happy April Fool's Day everyone! I tricked you yesterday with a photoshopped snapshot of my mane. I'm not sure that I'm really ready for purple tresses yet!"

Good April Fools' Day prank, LC - but we think you'd look great with lilac hair - so why not make like Nicole and give it a go anyway?

On April 1 2014, we wrote...

Proof that lilac hair is THE hair colour trend of 2014 - Lauren Conrad just joined the purple hair brigade.

Now, a lot of celebs have been tricking us with their hair choices recently, so this could be an April Fool's joke - but even if it is, we think she should stick with the purple hair. It looks great.

Writing on her website, Lauren revealed the new 'do - saying she'd experimented with temporary pink hair dye for a weekend look, but she'd decided to take the plunge and go purple:

"I really didn't think that purple was my color, but after seeing several others wear it recently, I decided to give it a try. I also tested out the dye on a small section of hair underneath, before coloring my whole mane-which I always recommend. It just goes to show that you should never knock a trend until you try it…"

Lauren's new look lasts for 6 to 8 weeks - so hopefully we'll see more of her new hair on Instagram soon. We reckon she was inspired by Nicole Richie and Ireland Baldwin - the latest celebs to experiment with violet hair hues.
