Bouchra Jarrar is Lanvin's new creative director, it has been confirmed. The designer will close her eponymous label to concentrate on her new role at France's oldest surviving couture house.
The news follows speculation about the appointment earlier this week. It marks the first time a woman has helmed the fashion house since 2002.

Lanvin is reportedly hiring Bouchra Jarrar as its new creative director.
The designer would replace the much-loved Alber Elbaz, who helmed the label for 14 years before leaving in October last year after a disagreement with the brand's owner, Shaw-Lan Wang.
WWD reports that Jarrar is said to be close to signing a deal with Lanvin. If the rumours are true, it would mean a major shakeup for the brand - Jarrar is known for her streamlined sporty aesthetic, while Lanvin has built a reputation for feminine cocktail dresses. She would bring a renewed focus on daywear and perhaps a defined, fuss-free elegance.
Market sources report that Jarrar would be responsible only for the womenswear categories, unlike Elbaz who oversaw both womennswear and menswear.
Other names to have mooted for the job include Simone Rocha, Huishan Zhang and Erdem Moralioglu.
