Social media was its usual charming self at the Super Bowl on Sunday, with some viewers mocking Lady Gaga for daring to show the tiniest bit of tummy during her amazing half-time show – and she had the last word.
Gaga, who casually flew into her performance from the roof, while attached to some nominal wiring, wore a tight pair of shorts and crop top for her dance routines, and some very bad people teased her for it, while some fans defended her saying they loved her "adorable" tummy.
(Guys – she was wearing the tightest pair of pants in the Western world. This is just the kind of thing that happens.)
Other fans were quick to point out that seeing someone working their ass off, and doing so with a modicum of extra flesh, was inspirational.

And that, actually, if that was a pot belly, then we're all basically tangerines with legs in comparison. God bless you Gaga.

Gaga later posted a thank you to her fans as well as prodding a gentle redirection of the conversation.
Alongside a picture of herself and her dancers on Instagram, she wrote: "I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do.

"I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That's the stuff of champions. Thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys. Xoxo, gaga."
