There are products I try, love, and move on from. Then there are the rare few that become permanent fixtures in my beauty routine. Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil falls into the latter camp.
A lightweight yet luxuriously rich hair oil, it gives my hair that elusive glossy finish without weighing it down. I've used it for over a year now, and – hair dressers would hate me for saying this – it doesn't seem to matter what shampoo or conditioner I use, it leaves my hair feeling like I've just stepped out of the salon. With Prime Day making it a little less spendy, now’s the time to try it.

How we tested the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil
I have very fine hair, but lots of it - a combination that’s both a blessing and a styling headache. My natural curls tend to fluff up with frizz the moment I step outside, and while I love the volume, I’ve always been on the hunt for a product that could add definition without the dreaded heaviness.
I first tried Kérastase’s Elixir Ultime hair oil about a year ago, and within two weeks (four wash days, to be exact), it earned a permanent spot on my bathroom shelf. I tested it on dry, freshly styled hair, running one pump through my strand each day between wash days. I’ve since repurchased it twice, which is high praise considering how picky I am with hair products. As someone who blow-dries or heatless curls 2–3 times a week, it’s become my post-styling holy grail.
What is Kérastase?
We don't just want professional hair care at the salon. Instead, we want it every day. Parisian brand Kérastase is one of the few haircare brands that professionals use and genuinely recommend. It's known for its nourishing ingredients, luxurious packaging, and, of course, the impressive results its products deliver.
What makes the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil so special?
How can a hair oil add shine without making the roots look greasy? That was the one question I always asked myself – and it's why I avoided any kind of oil, no matter how "feather-light" and "unweighted" it claimed to be. Then, I discovered "Elixir Ultime" by Kérastase.
This isn’t your standard silicone-y serum. Kérastase’s Elixir Ultime Hair Oil is powered by a luxurious blend of three key oils: marula oil for softness, camellia oil for shine, and argan oil for nourishment. Together, they work to seal the hair cuticle, reduce fly-aways, and deliver a glossy, glassy finish, without weighing strands down.
The scent of the oil is dreamy – I fall in love with it every time – and love that you don't need very much product at all. I always use one pump on my fingers, warm the oil up between my finger tips, and then run it loosely through my damp hair before blow-drying. TBH, though, the Elixir Ultime Hair Oil is incredibly versatile. You can use it as a pre-shampoo treatment, a heat protectant, a finishing gloss or even a hydrating touch-up throughout the day. It's great for flyaways in sleek buns and the like.
Is the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil worth it?
From the very first use, I noticed an instant shift in texture. My curls looked shinier, felt softer, and had that bouncy, glossy swish that only ever seems to happen after a salon appointment. After a blow dry, it helped smooth down the halo of frizz that always threatens to ruin the finish, and on curl days, it acted like a styling sealant, locking in shape and hydration without leaving any residue. My favourite take-away? The effect lasted. I could stretch a blow dry across three days with barely any touch-ups, and my curls held their shape for longer than usual – particularly impressive for this summer's heatwave and humidity levels.
As a beauty writer who’s tested dozens of hair oils over the years, I can confidently say this one is worth the hype. It’s lightweight, indulgent, and – thanks to Prime Day – finally available at a more purse-friendly price.
