Don’t adjust your screens! That’s not a glitch, and it’s not AI (as far as we can tell). That is Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau — as in, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — on what very well could be an actual date.
A video published by TMZ on July 29 appears to show Perry and Trudeau having dinner together at a restaurant called Le Violon in Montreal, Canada. According to the eye-witnesses who spoke to TMZ, the pair shared several dishes, then thanked the kitchen staff personally at the end of their meal. To be clear, we don't have any photos or video of them kissing or holding hands or doing anything else that would make it 100 percent obvious that this was a date. All we really know is that they had dinner.
As you are probably already aware, Perry is fresh from her split from long-time partner Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares one daughter. On July 3, Perry and Bloom confirmed their breakup in a statement to People, sharing, “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.” At the same time, Page Six reported that Bloom had been quite openly flirting with women on a recent trip to Miami.

For his part, Trudeau separated from his wife, Sophie Grégoire, in August of 2023 after 18 years together. In a statement not dissimilar from the one Perry and Bloom released, Trudeau said at the time: “As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build,” per The New York Times. Since then he has not been romantically linked to anyone new. Until now, that is. Possibly.
Because it really cannot be overstated how much we do not actually know if Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were on a date or not. For all we know, Perry is feeling so empowered by her trip to space that she’s decided to try her hand at international diplomacy.
