Katie Holmes has made laidback, girl-next-door hair her calling card ever since exploding onto the scene as Joey Potter in Dawson's Creek in the late ‘90s. Since then, her hair repertoire has included a Y2K tapered cut, a pixie cut and feathered beachy waves. More recently, she resurrected a long, super-straight ’90s do with layers that floated around the contours of her face.

I think we can all agree that many of the star's most iconic hair styles have come from a nineties or noughties archive. But on May 6, Katie Holmes hit an even higher note on her nostalgic, understated style.
Taking to Instagram, she thanked her glam squad for styling her look as she celebrated her new role on the hit series Poker Face. “Thank you @nlyonne for having me for season 2! Thank you @briesarawelch for styling this look! Thank u @djquintero and @genevieveherr for getting me ready♥️,” she captioned her post.
Everything about Katie's look screams boho - from her blue and ivory floral pant suit to a new hair style that seems to channel two of the most iconic ‘90s fashionistas: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

First, there’s her new tight, piece-y waves, worn in a free-spirited, mussed-up style. She's also gone blonder with an ‘Olsen dip’, where the ends of her hair are sun-kissed but the roots remain intentionally dark and worn-in. Think a root smudge, combined with a dip dye and you get the picture.
Another one from the archive.

"It really pushes the idea that you had your hair done a few months ago, as opposed to it been freshly done," says celebrity hair stylist Luke Hersheson of the colour trend. “I really like that blend, but it being much more extreme so it feels a bit rock n roll.”
On the one hand, nothing about the look is too perfect or polished. On the other, it's the most pitch-perfect hair style for easy-breezy summer days.
Rather than a hairdryer and round brush, use a triple-barrel waver such as Hershesons The Long Hair Multi-Tasker or ghd Wave to recreate the look - then gently shake the curl out before it sets. Finally, pair it with dry shampoo and texturising spray (we rate Ouai Wave Spray Luxe) for a finishing touch worthy of an Olsen.
