At the 16th GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards 2022, in partnership with Samsung, we're honouring those women who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo and reshape the world. From activism to acting, our winners are working across a variety of industries to make the world a better, more equal place.

Katherine Ryan is undoubtedly every woman's BFF, and her charismatic aura radiated on the red carpet at the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards 2022. Making a glamorous style statement, the 39-year-old Canadian comedienne oozed glamour in a statement Gyunel Couture green dress with statement white panelling down the front, which she joked was the only thing that would "fit her bump".

On the red carpet, she also spoke to GLAMOUR about her position in the industry today. While discussing how empowered she feels, Katherine joked: "I feel too empowered. If there's anyone not in need of empowerment, it's me. I have a dangerous level of empowerment and overconfidence."

Taking a more serious turn, Katherine continued: "I've had one baby last year, and I'm having another this year, and that is a time your body changes, and you feel vulnerable, and its really empowering to be like, right well my body's not my own for a few years, but I feel so honoured to create these people and have this luxury that's not afforded to everyone, to grow my family. I feel empowered in a different way as I approach forty.

Discussing the most significant thing she has overcome in her career, Katherine explained: "I feel like its really crucial that I overcame shame. To do what I do, you have to be shameless, and when I came to this country, I was a very young single mother, very vulnerable, and was miles away from anyone who loved me. I did feel shame about that - the narrative was I was damaged goods. Everyone was like, 'why did he leave you?' And I was like, 'because I asked him to'. Soon I started feeling good about myself and enjoying the privilege that it was to have that time with my daughter and be a single mother to my daughter. It was then wonderful things started coming into my life.

Katherine also said that the most radical thing she had done in the name of feminism was to be "the only person standing in a room with a microphone allowed to speak", as it's "considered to be very masculine".

However, Katherine Ryan explained that she thinks that action is actually alpha. "It's only recently that we started recognising alpha behaviours as feminine and non-binary as well. My lifestyle is very alpha, so I hope to inspire young people with the things that I say, and anyone who feels not good enough or dishearted, you can be the alpha in any room."
