Kate Winslet's revelation of where she keeps her Academy Award has driven us all mad – because it's so perfect.
The actor won her Oscar back in 2009 for her role in The Reader, and has shared the love (and the joy of holding such an esteemed award) ever since. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Kate described the award itself as “surprisingly heavy”, going on to reveal where she keeps it and why.
“Everyone wants to have a hold, of course,” she tells Graham, perfectly depicting the reaction anyone might have if they got to hold an Oscar IRL. They'd want to practice their acceptance speech, of course, whether they'd won one or not!
Today in Hollywood horror stories…
But the most genius part? Where Kate keeps her Oscar for all to have a play with it.
“The best place really for Oscar, is actually the loo,” she says. “Because when everyone goes in for a wee or a poo, they can really take their time in front of the mirror with Oscar. You can always tell because they flush and then there's another five minutes…” It's obvious to her, she says, when a guest is “playing with Oscar”.
Really, we reckon Kate is doing all of her guests a service, giving them this opportunity with her Oscar. Sharing is caring, after all.
She added: "The whole idea is for everyone to pick it up and say, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’ — and you can always tell when someone has, because they spend a little extra time in there after they flushed. They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”
Fans have freaked out over this knowledge, with one bestowing upon Kate Winslet a “best host award” in the comments and another calling her “A Woman Of The People”. Others have come up with a hilarious theory that the actor should (or has already) installed a secret camera so she can watch her guests' speeches back herself.
One posted: “Plot twist: she secretly records their speeches and rewatches them to laugh at over drinks lol”.
We would respect her even more if she did.
