If you thought being married to the future King of England was all sunshine and tiaras, then you clearly know very little about British weather. You also, it transpires, might be a little out of touch with royal sartorial protocol, with the Duchess of Cambridge having shown a significant lack of interest in the traditional tiara since she married Prince William back in 2011.
Her tiara debut may well have been on that iconic wedding day, but in the decade that followed Kate Middleton has in fact only worn one on a handful of occasions. Ten, to be precise.

You may be surprised by that. We certainly were. After all, some of her most memorable looks have been topped off by the regal accessory - but perhaps that's exactly why they're her most memorable looks...
Despite what we may have all presumed, there's no official rule as to when tiaras are supposed to be worn. And while Princess Diana was a big fan of the statement piece, it seems Kate is more fond of a subtle aesthetic.
Perhaps merely a personal preference, or perhaps a well-thought-out strategy in the plight to ensure that our new wave of royals portray the monarchy as being more approachable or relatable, we applaud the Duchess for paving her own way.

So when has she chosen to wear one? Here are the ten occasions the Duchess of Cambridge has opted for a tiara...
Kate borrowed the Cartier Halo Tiara from Queen Elizabeth to complete her bridal look. It has nearly 1,000 diamonds in total and was initially purchased from Cartier in 1936 as an anniversary gift from King George VI to his wife.
The Duchess wore the Lotus Flower Tiara with a red Jenny Packham gown.
With photographers forbidden access inside the reception, only the keenest eye could recognise this glimpse of the Lover's Knot Tiara, one of Princess Diana's favorite pieces of jewelry.
The Duchess re-wore the Lover's Knot for a second time publicly, no doubt partly due to the sentimental ties it holds to her late mother-in-law.
Clearly one of her favourites, Kate re-wore the Lover's Knot again the next year and paired it with a plunging Marchesa gown and a ruby-and-diamond necklace.
Later that year, she paired the Lover's Knot tiara with a more monochromatic look via a diamond necklace, and diamond and pearl earrings.
Offering up a full-view of the beautiful Lover's Knot, Kate showcased her favourite piece with a dusky blue Alexander McQueen gown and the Queen Alexandra Wedding Necklace.
Wearing the Cambridge Lover's Knot for the sixth time, a radiant Kate also opted for an equally shimmering gown by Jenny Packham.
The Duckess paired the Lover's Knot with the Queen Mother's beautiful sapphire and diamond fringe earrings.
Which tiara did she opt for most recently? Unsurprisingly, she once again showed her loyal affinity to the Lover's Knot which she paired with a navy velvet gown by Alexander McQueen and the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace.
