Prince William and Kate Middleton's bedroom walls may be graced by a new painting, after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly got very excited over an unofficial portrait of Kate, painted by Canadian artist Tom Sutton-Smith.

Sutton-Smith was inspired to create the unusual painting after witnessing the public's disappointment at Paul Elmsley's 2012 portrait of Kate Middleton, which was criticised as 'catastrophic' - ouch!

Sutton-Smith's friends apparently told him he could 'do better than that' - and so he did, creating the portrait on a green background that was shown to Will and Kate when they visited Scotland last week.

Kate was supposedly mesmerised by the portrait, while William exclaimed: "Wow, it's brilliant! That's going up in my room."

Sutton-Smith was away in Paris when the royals came to check out his portrait, but he was apparently "pleased with the outcome and very happy with their reaction." Well, that's all right, then.

Kate used to have posters of William on her bedroom wall as a student - now look how the tables have turned!
