Once you've looked past all the Oscars frocks, the photobombing pictures, and the speeches, it's time to look at the hair and beauty. We spoke to Chris McMillan, who describes himself as Hollywood's 'mane man', and is the personal hairstylist to Jennifer Aniston.

For this year's Oscars, Chris worked his magic on Kate Hudson, who channelled Veronica Lake's '60s glamour.

Talking about the evening, Chris said: "We had a blast. Kate really is up for anything, she's great."

When we asked how they decided on Kate Hudson's look, he revealed: "You get there and your first question is, 'Where's the dress?", you always need to see the dress first. Kate's dress had a 1940s glamour to it, but very sexy at the same time - it was so awesome. I was like, 'It reminds me of Veronica Lake, or the 1940s, or like, Jerry Hall', so I was like, 'let's do it down' because Kate was up for having it down. So we decided to have it down and swept to the side and kept it asymmetrical. I didn't want it to be severe to one side, but more like she was pulling it over to one side."

Chris didn't push her to go for the down 'do, though. He confirmed that the look was a collaboration: "It's never a one person decision. It was a no brainer for me, Kate's look - just keeping it to one side. And it's funny because it turned out to be quite a trend on the night."

What did he need to make sure Kate Hudson looked picture perfect…

"A good strong hairspray - Flex Shaping hairspray by Living Proof. You don't get the helmet head, you just get it nice and natural.

"To get good volume I need a great shampoo and conditioner - Full by Living Proof.

"For shine - Satin Hair Serum by Living Proof."

Does he feel lucky to be working with celebrities? "Are you kidding? Every day. I feel so fortunate to do what I do."

We asked him about his all-time favourite Oscars hairstyle, to which he answered: "I love Mira Sorvino's hair when she won her Oscar years and years ago. I know it's a strange and funny one, but it's just a no-brainer for me."

Obviously Chris thought that Kate looked the best, but he also thought some other A-list hairstyles had the wow-factor: "I thought Julia Roberts looked beautiful - her hair looked effortless. Charlize (Theron) looked elegant, Emma Watson looked great - really young, and fun, and modern and cool. She looked like her age."

With Chris having a close working relationship with Jennifer Aniston, we wanted to get an insight into the wonderful world of her famous tresses. We tried to ask about the wedding hair, but his tone turned to ice, and he said, "I don't know what you're talking about."

But he did say that he hoped there would be a more iconic hairstyle than the 'Rachel' and that people love Jennifer Aniston's hair because "she has a great head of hair". As you can probably tell, he wasn't keen on talking about Jennifer Aniston's hair...

When asked who else he would like to work with, he replied: "I would love to work on Allison Williams from GIRLS."

Explaining, "I'm dying to do her hair - I love her! I like the way her hair looks on GIRLS. If she wanted to keep it long, I would. But I would cut a few inches off the bottom, I'd lighten it up, and layer it around the face."
