Jennifer Lopez not only keeps us on our toes with new business ideas and activities (we see you: Delola drinks), but also with a never-ending edit or new hairstyles. Just a few weeks ago at the haute couture shows in Paris, the singer switched out her famously long hair for a flicked bob – now she's back with a new hairstyle, including a new hair colour.

In an Instagram post from 9th February, the actress, singer and entrepreneur can be seen with a completely new look. Not only has the Queen of Pop added ultra-long extensions styled into voluminous layers, she also shows off blonde highlights that immediately remind us of the '90s chunky highlights that were popular at the time.

The base colour of her XXL hairstyle is a rich chestnut brown, while the striped, contrasting highlights have a creamy vanilla tone that creates a soft overall look. The focus is on J.Lo's face with face-framing pieces, but it's all the proof we need that invisible highlights are not the only way to go. It looks like we'll be seeing much more of our highlights in 2024 (quite literally).

Top hair stylist Lorenzo Martin took care of styling Jen's hair, while Mary Phillips (who also counts Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber as clients) was responsible for the makeup. Mary opted for a very natural look with nude-coloured lips and soft blush.

Who suits ‘baked vanilla hair’?

There's no hard and fast rule for contrasting highlights – you either like this trend or you don't, but the warm, vanilla-inspired highlights look particularly good on skin tones with a warm undertone. Plus, both brunettes and blondes can wear the colour, which is added to the hair with lowlights and highlights using balayage, depending on the natural hair colour.

Since the first Instagram post, Jennifer has given us another look at the hair trend in action when she gave a secret concert at the new One & Only lifestyle destination in Dubai at the weekend.

She wore her hair in a half updo with her chunkier highlights visible. So, if you want to remix your hair colour, Jennifer Lopez is making a strong case for baked vanilla.
