Jennifer Lawrence is the world's highest paid actress, banking $52m (before tax) in the last 12 months, according to Forbes magazine. The Hunger Games star was well ahead of the competition, making $16.5m more than her nearest competitor Scarlett Johansson, who earned $35.5m.
Melissa McCarthy ranked third on the list with $23m, thanks to roles in Spy and Tammy. Fourth on the list was the only non-American: Chinese actress Fan Bingbing made $21 million.
Despite the big numbers, the list highlights the discrepancy between the genders in Hollywood. The combined wealth of the highest paid actress was $281m, while their male counterparts made $941m. The barrier for entry on the female list was $6m, while on the male list it was $13m.
