Jake Gyllenhaal split up with Taylor Swift because he was not ready for a relationship, a source has revealed.
The actor apparently ended the short-lived romance with the country singer before Christmas after dating her for two months.
A source close to the actor told reporters that Gyllenhaal's decisions to cool things off came from his reluctance to be in a high-profile relationship after his very public split from Reese Witherspoon in November 2009.
The insider said: "[Jake] was really caught off guard and taken aback by how Reese ended it. Honestly, he's still reeling from that. "Jake was surprised by all the attention [he and Swift attracted], and the last thing he wanted was another public, surprise break-up. "Taylor's young, you just don't know what could have happened. He needed to contain it, before it went any further. He's just not in that relationship space right now."
