The past few fashion seasons have seen designers champion diversity more and more, and J. Crew's latest spring/summer 2017 presentation marks another huge leap, with the brand ditching models in favour of staffers, family members and journalists.

Yep, the brand forwent the usual model castings process this season by choosing to have brand staffers, staff family members and even magazine editors wear the collection, with ages ranging from 13 to 70.

The group ranged from students, to parents, grandparents, professionals, artists, teachers, activists and even featured a seven months pregnant mum-to-be.

J. Crew's decision to use "normal people" wasn't an elaborate scheme to save money on model hiring, but a step towards diversifying the industry. We wonder if they'll stick to this model? It's got our vote.

As for the clothes, the collection - helmed by style maven Jenna Lyons - featured gingham prints, airy tailoring and bold stripes.
