Two legends of music, Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry, have teamed up for a Paco Rabanne campaign. The pair front the campaign for new scents Black XS Be A Legend for him and for her. We flew to Paris to hear Debbie Harry perform in a celebratory concert to launch the campaign, and she's shared with us some of her career highlights and advice for the younger generation.
DEBBIE ON: The perks of being a rock star

Recognition, I think that is a privilege. You
put out something that you have thought of, or written,
experienced, talked about, and then, people think they really know
you. That you are really their friend, and that is a real gift.
Sometimes it is disastrous and sometimes it is great.
DEBBIE ON: Having a rock star attitude

I think it goes in stages. When you are starting
out, you have to stamp your feet, pull your hair, grab people's
attention, and demand attention. There are lots of ways to do that:
to be risqué, naughty, bad or to be wild, to express some kind of
freedom, some excitement and a sense of adventure, especially in
rock-and-roll. I think it is very important. And then, with some of
that acceptance, comes a bit of responsibility, because it is a
two-way street so, you have to give back.
DEBBIE ON: Advice

Music is a great part of young people's lives,
because it is a part of social life. Sometimes it is very
"grounding" for a lot of young kids and it is really part of their
lives in a very intimate way. So, for advice I would say if you
really want to get into music you should know from a very young age
that you are a musician, that you understand music instinctively,
and that if you practice an instrument you should probably start
when you are eleven. If you are a singer, you are probably a singer
from the day you are born.
DEBBIE ON: Being proud

I think I am more amazed than proud that I have
had a career that I did not expect. I think I am really happy with
my performances and I think that I have improved. That is very
satisfying.
DEBBIE ON: The Be A Legend Campaign

I like the creativity of it, and most of all the
association with Iggy. It is a very nice project and fragrance. I
think that my fans and the people who follow me, will be interested
in that fragrance.
DEBBIE ON: Iggy

It was really great to see Iggy again! He was so
much a part of our ongoing and becoming. He gave us our first real
tour: it was just a great experience. He and David Bowie were
teaming up at that point. David was in the background playing
keyboards and Iggy was in front. It was really Iggy's listening.
When they brought us into the tour, they treated us in a way that
was very generous and smart. They said: "We're going to give you
this amount of time; we're going to give you this amount of
equipment, lights, sound... And we want the show to be great, for
all of us, we want our show to be great, we want your show to be
great. We really want to put on a great show, a unified piece."
Bands were very awful to each other at that time. So to have this
experience... It was really great and smart.
