Icicle eyeshadow is the prettiest Christmas makeup trend

Glitz, but make it casual and wearable.

Sparkle for Christmas is about as original as florals for spring, but that doesn't mean it can't be stunning. Case in point: the icicle eyeshadow looks that have been sweeping our social channels.

Glitz is firmly on the agenda for December, but if you're more of a low-key babes, icicle eyeshadow might be more your speed.

What is icicle eyeshadow?

Unsurprisingly the trend takes its name from glacial icicles – particularly when they catch the light and glimmer. But, what makes icicle eyeshadow different from your regular shimmery eyeshadow, is that it feels much more subtle – it's a wash of sparkle and has a sheer, or even wet-look quality to it that glazes eyelids without going OTT.

Why choose icicle eyeshadow?

The sheerer finish feels more casual, cool, effortless and, crucially, wearable, particularly if you want to nod to a party look without burying your lids in glitter.

How to wear icicle eyeshadow?

We've seen icicle eyeshadow interpreted in loads of different ways, with different shades pulling through. The beauty of icicles is that they refract and reflect the light around them, so they can read more lilacy or pink, or a little more blue or green. In general it's best to stick to cooler tones, but we've seen some beautiful warm bronze renditions, too. Plus, it works beautifully with a simple glowy-skin base and glossy lips.
