Boots Riley is back at last.
After the cult impact of Sorry to Bother You, the filmmaker returns with I Love Boosters, a sci-fi comedy that collides shoplifting, satire, fashion, class rage and surreal twists into one loud, hyper-colourful ride. Yeah, we watched the trailer like three times in a row and we're still gaping at the screen.
Led by Keke Palmer and backed by a celeb-stuffed cast, the film follows a crew of high-end clothing thieves as they take on a powerful fashion empire by shoplifting.
What is the story of I Love Boosters?
I Love Boosters centres on The Velvet Gang, a group of professional shoplifters who steal high-end designer clothes from luxury stores and quietly resell them at lower prices. For them, boosting isn’t just a crime, it’s rebellion. It’s protest. It’s survival.
Their leader, Corvette, played by Keke Palmer, is obsessed with both the thrill and symbolism of taking back from a system built on greed. She's like Robin Hood, but in PRADA.
The gang sets its sights on a ruthless fashion mogul who represents everything they despise about consumer culture. What begins as organised theft slowly mutates into something far bigger — and much stranger — unfolding into a confrontation packed with science-fiction elements, absurd humour and biting social commentary.
Through this wild, wild premise, Boots Riley interrogates class division, exploitation, desire and the ways consumerism controls people long before they realise it.
Oh, we’re obsessed.
Who’s in the I Love Boosters cast?
Excuse me, Keke? The Keke? Yep — stepping into the role of Corvette, the fearless leader of The Velvet Gang, is none other than Keke Palmer. She’s come a very long way since her child star days, and is now firmly in her leading-lady era. Most recently, she’s appeared in One of Them Days, NOPE and Good Fortune, proving once again that there’s truly nothing she can’t do.
We couldn’t wait any longer to talk about Will Poulter. He appears to play a designer store owner, dressed entirely in green — and somehow absolutely pulling it off. From We’re the Millers to The Bear, Poulter has quietly built an impressively eclectic career, consistently popping up in roles that are smart, strange, and endlessly watchable.
Riding high after the buzz of The Substance and the latest season of Landman, Demi Moore is one of the biggest names in the cast. She plays a powerful, sharp-tongued fashion tycoon who becomes the gang’s ultimate target — and yes, she does it all in a very classy blonde wig.
Reuniting with director Boots Riley after Sorry to Bother You is LaKeith Stanfield. The actor and rapper keeps delivering hit after hit, with standout roles in Die My Love, Atlanta and Judas and the Black Messiah. We can’t wait to see what he brings to his latest role in I Love Boosters.
Another exciting addition to the I Love Boosters cast is Naomi Ackie, known for her roles in Blink Twice, Mickey 17 and Lady Macbeth. She plays Sade, a key member of Keke Palmer’s crew.
Best known for her roles on Doom Patrol and The Miseducation of Bindu, Hannah Alline is a newer face joining the cast of I Love Boosters.
From 3 Body Problem to Baby Driver, Eiza González is an exciting talent who’s sure to bring edge and energy to her role. She appears to be involved in the gang’s daring heists as well.
Poppy Liu, best known for TV roles in His & Hers, Hacks and No Good Deed, is now making the jump to the big screen in I Love Boosters. She appears to be playing a member of the crew.
Most recently, Taylour Paige appeared in the prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry, so this role promises a very different pace. While details about her character are still under wraps, it looks like she’s joining Keke Palmer’s crew in I Love Boosters as well.
From 30 Rock to Marvel, Ocean’s Twelve to Crash, Don Cheadle is a familiar and commanding presence on our screens.
