Exciting upcoming TV series, Hysterical, is set to tackle the true-life problem of misogynist online influencers and their role in radicalising young men, according to Variety.

The plot of the show is inspired by Andrew Tate's rise to fame and notoriety. The former kickboxer – who has over 10 million followers – once said women should "bear responsibility" for sexual assault. And yet, a 2023 YouGov report found that one in six boys aged 6-15 had a positive view of Andrew Tate.

Hysterical plot

The series will see a group of friends plot the takedown of a misogynist influencer – an internet personality based on Andrew Tate's IRL influence on young men.

The exciting synopsis reads as follows: "Therapist Leonora [played by Naomie Harris] finds herself going down a rabbit hole of toxic masculinity after her daughter is assaulted. Realising the boy responsible is a fan of ‘alpha’ influencer Tommy T, who's grown a global following spewing toxic advice to young men, Leonora unloads on her friends during one of their weekly 'rage release' rant sessions. Intoxicated by anger and alcohol, the group soon decide to take matters into their own hands as they plot to take down Tommy T themselves.

“From clumsy surveillance attempts to pranks that fizzle out, these well-meaning friends fumble their way through increasingly outrageous schemes. Along the way, they discover just how much chaos a tight-knit group of friends can create when harnessing their rage – and just how far they're willing to go for one another. Between school runs, awkward encounters with neighbours, juggling everyday life and busy careers, the women learn that maybe they're not completely unequipped for revenge after all – they just have to do it their way.”

Hysterical cast

Joining Naomie Harris and Jameela Jamil will be comedian Romesh Ranganathan, and creator Olivia Lee is also billed as a cast member. Ranganathan will also co-executive produce.

We know that Naomie will play protagonist Leonora, but the rest of the cast's roles and character information are yet to be confirmed.

We'd love to see Jameela play a woman wreaking revenge on a misogynist icon, we won't lie.
