If you’ve ever wondered how to style a blazer, you’ve come to the right place. This may sound excessive, but I currently have not one, not two, but seven blazers in my possession. In my defence, they’re all very different from one another — one is butter yellow, one is cashmere, one has short sleeves…. Of course, I also need classic black and pinstripe options and a few fitted versus boxy blazers too. My point is, when it comes to blazer outfit ideas, I have spent years perfecting different styling tips to find the best combinations.
Because once the temperatures start to drop, having at least one or two trusty blazers in rotation will lead to endless autumnal outfits for any vibe you want: cosy chic, corporate ready, low-key elegance, and everything in between. Whether you’re going for a casual outfit or a dressy vibe, blazers are that reliable clutch piece that can instantly elevate any look. Not to mention, it may be the only outerwear that’s actually worn year-round. Even summer weddings turn chilly at night, and a blazer is pretty much the only jacket that looks good with a gown.
The best blazers surpass fashion trends and exist amongst jeans and white T-shirts as wardrobe staples we can’t function without. That said, the piece is so classic that it can be easy to fall into a style rut. That’s where knowing how to style a blazer to the latest trends comes in. For inspiration, I’ve listed out ten blazer looks that I’m loving, below, but I recommend having a little dress-up party in your bedroom and getting creative with your own personal style too. You’ll never not find a chic skirt, a slip dress, or even leggings that don’t look good with a blazer.

Be relaxed, trendy and elegant: all in one look.

You’re not new here. You already know capris are back, and it was celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber who helped bring about the return of the pedal pusher. Wearing blazers with capris is one way to bring pant trend into autumn and gives a cool, elevated edge to a business casual look. Pair them with your favourite pumps, Mary Janes, or trainers and a baseball cap. Either way, it works.
My favourite classic blazer outfit is a midi skirt and blazer combo. Whether you choose a dressier option (like the lace skirt pictured above) or a more casual white poplin skirt is irrelevant. No matter which combo you choose, this pairing always goes together like cake and coffee. You can just as easily wear a mini or maxi skirt, sure, but there’s something about the cut off above the ankles that looks and feels most elegant and on trend. As for shoes, I’d recommend ballet flats or loafers for work, trainers or clogs on the weekend, and heels if it’s a more formal event.
A look that combines office chic with street style nonchalance.

There’s no model off-duty look quite like the blazer, hat and trainers ensemble. Wear any of your favourite jeans and button-down underneath the blazer. Extra points if you add a T-shirt layer too. The look feels put together, yet casual; comfortable, but not sloppy. To make things a little more elevated, replace the trainers with loafers. Regardless, just make sure your outerwear and hat complement one another.
Wide-leg trousers are also a reliable option to wear with a fitted blazer. It’s a smart casual look that works both in and out of the office, especially once the temperatures begin to drop. The ensemble can run the risk of looking too simple, however, so it’s good to add unexpected accessories here — some chic shades, a belt, or a statement bag can turn the look from boring to beautiful.
Bermuda shorts are another striking 2025 trend that works with a blazer, and it makes sense that these two borrowed-from-the-boys pieces go together. If you want to add a touch of femininity, try a fitted tank top or a blouse. Once the weather starts to get a little colder, you can swap the heels in for tall boxy boots. In fact, a top-to-bottom boxy look is one of my favourite outfit ideas — it gives an air of nonchalance that screams “cool girl.”
The ultimate office wear? A pencil skirt, turtleneck, suit jacket, and pumps. You already know that the woman who struts into the office in a black blazer look like this means serious business. This power look reigned supreme in the ’90s and continues to have the same show-stopping effect today. To make it more modern, go for an oversized blazer contrasted with a tiny handbag.
The juxtaposition of a blazer — an innately formal piece of outerwear — with leggings, trainers, and a cap feels oddly satisfying. It may have been a fashion faux-pas some 40 years ago, but now the blazer can easily be styled as part of athleisure. You can always add a structured tote bag to the look to balance everything out too. Best of all, it’s very likely you already have everything you need to complete this look in your closet.
For more formal occasions, style your blazer with a slip dress. As the evenings get colder, you’ll need a reliable jacket to cover your shoulders, and the black blazer is exactly the kind of outerwear that works well with a dress. Swap your heels for trainers if the event leans more casual. You’ll still look put together and ready for date night.
You absolutely can — and should — wear your favourite jeans with a blazer. I recommend a high-waisted denim to give your midsection a little shape. You can even take it one step further and wrap a belt around, defining the waist even more. Go ahead and snuggle into your cosy turtleneck knit too, and you’ve got an attention-grabbing autumn look on your hands.
The moment Anthony Vaccarello, creative director at YSL, sent models down the spring/summer 2025 runway in head-to-toe oversized suits, I was sold. He took the blazer back to its roots as masculine office attire and turned it into women’s high fashion. So go ahead, borrow your dad’s old necktie or purchase a new one. With a big button-down and some trousers, you, too, can look like Bella Hadid in the opening look.
Seventies aesthetics will be influencing autumn trends in a major way, and that includes blazers. A casual blazer in suede layered with a knit cardigan is a nice mix of textures that plays well with a flare or bootcut jean.
