It's not the first time a HOTD finale has been leaked.

House of the Dragon's finale episode has been leaked just five days before it was due to be released, with several scenes from the last episode appearing on TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter) on July 30. Though season 2 episode 8 was set to premiere on August 4, a TikTok account posted 14 videos and approximately 30 minutes of footage from the finale, quickly garnering views.

While the account responsible for the leaks was banned roughly three hours later, it didn't take long for others to reshare the leaks across TikTok, X and Reddit, with the original posts themselves racking up thousands of views before the account was taken down. The leaked videos seem to have been taken by someone filming a screen with a secondary device.

Naturally, plenty of duplicates remain across the platforms, so fans not wanting to spoil the final episode for themselves should mute hashtags and relevant searches on their socials.

But this isn't the first time House of the Dragon has suffered a leak, with the season 1 finale episode being made illegally available just days before it was set to air in 2022. The first season leak was thought to have originated by a distribution partner in Europe, the Middle East or Africa at the time, with a company spokesperson saying:

“It appears to have originated from a distribution partner in the EMEA region. HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet. We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when it premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max, where it will stream exclusively in 4K.”

Likewise, HBO’s Game of Thrones series saw multiple leaks, with several episodes making their way online before they were officially released.

Following the penultimate episode, HBO released a season 2 finale teaser in which we see war breaking out between the Greens and the Blacks and them taking to the sea, though we'll have to wait until August 4 to see it play out in all its glory.
