We really are getting the best of both worlds. Get ready to feel very nostalgic and very old, millennials, because Hannah Montana is back for a 20th anniversary special. Miley Cyrus, who starred as the teen with a secret pop star alter ego, returned for a conversation with Call Her Daddy's Alex Cooper about the iconic Disney Channel show and its lasting legacy. (Including, but not limited to, that kissing the window meme, naturally.)

Throughout the special, Cyrus reminisced about the show while sitting on a reconstructed set of the Stewart family home and performed a few of Hannah Montana's greatest hits, including her first performance of “Best of Both Worlds” since 2008. Throughout the special, a number of special guests joined Cyrus on stage to discuss their memories of making and watching the early aughts phenomenon.

Miley Cyrus

Naturally, Miley Cyrus, aka Miley Stewart, aka Hannah Montana, was the star of the show. The special begins with Cyrus walking onto the reconstructed Hannah Montana set and getting emotional. (Us too, girl!) She then explores the set and reminisces about being on the original set 20 years ago, before sitting down for a long chat with Cooper.

“It felt like home again," Cyrus told Variety of making the special.

She added, “I used to think of Hannah as something separate from myself. This special is my reclaiming of merging Hannah and Miley together.”

Billy Rae Cyrus

Miley's father, Billy Rae Cyrus, famously played her father in the show, too. He joins her during the special to reflect on making the show together. “The show wasn't written for us but in some ways it feels like it was," says Miley.

He went on to recall how he had auditioned for the role, assuming that someone else would get it. However, as Miley told Variety, “It was so obvious, after all the other dads, that you can’t fake the kind of connection that we have. The inside jokes, the nicknames, the handshakes, singing the songs together. It was a TKO.”

Tish Cyrus

Miley's mum and Billy Rae's ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, also plays a key role in the special, digging up old outfits, fan letters and scrapbooks from Miley's past. Seeing them look through Hannah's iconic wardrobe from the show is one of the most nostalgic parts of the show.

“You've just always really taught me to be in the moment, be authentic to who you are, and you've never tried to keep me Hannah. You wanted Miley to express herself, even if that meant losing all of this,” said Miley to her mum.

Selena Gomez

In an unexpected twist, Miley was joined by none other than Selena Gomez. Not only did Gomez have a role in the show, playing Mikayla Skeech, Miley's nemesis, she also led her own Disney Channel show, The Wizards of Waverley Place.

Chappell Roan

In another very unexpected twist, Miley was joined by pop star Chappell Roan, who was a fan of the show as a kid. “You literally walked so I could run,” Chappell told Mile, explaining that Hannah Montana became a huge inspiration for her in how she separates her personal life from her public one.

This special could not have been more nostalgic — that is, until Miley signed off by recreating the aforementioned window meme. Iconic.
