George Clooney’s description of meeting Amal has Drew Barrymore (and everyone) swooning

George Clooney walks around just oozing charm and charisma, right? Like, that part’s not news. 

But imagine if George was coming at you with all of that movie star dazzle while actually falling in love with you. Maybe it’s just how he tells the story, but the movie star’s description of meeting his future wife, Amal Alamuddin, on The Drew Barrymore Show has everyone, Drew Barrymore included, desperately clutching at their hearts to keep from swooning. 

After first acknowledging that he was immediately smitten with Amal as soon as he saw her, Clooney got to the really adorable stuff. “The funniest thing is, Bryan Lourd, my agent… he called me up and said, ‘There’s a girl coming to your house that you’re gonna marry,’” Clooney recalled. “And I was like, ‘You’re an idiot. Like, that’s not gonna happen.’ And then in comes Amal.” Clooney said they stayed up all night talking and “I started writing her… a bunch of letters…”

Barrymore has to interject, “You wrote her! Like, on pen and paper!?” Clooney confirmed that, yes, he really is that romantic.

Not only that, “We still write letters.” Barrymore squeals, “You still write letters!” Same, girl! The Instagram caption next to the video reads, “Is this real life?!” Apparently, it is for George and Amal Clooney. I don’t know about the rest of us.

Clooney was, of course, promoting his new rom-com with that other icon of on-screen charisma, Julia Roberts, Ticket to Paradise. I’m convinced George Clooney could have chemistry with anyone, but nothing beats handwritten love letters.
