<p class="story-body__introduction">Yesterday was a BIG day, it all

started when the US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is

now a legal right across the whole of the United States.

In a historic 5-4 decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy writing for the majority ruled that marriage is a constitutional right for all.

In the majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts writes: "No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. ... [The challengers] ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right."

Before the ruling, gay couples could marry in 37 states - in addition to Washington DC.

Barack Obama immediately took to Twitter...

Hillary Clinton posted a rainbow-coloured 'History' and captioned it with the word 'proud'.
