Red lips have been left behind, but the liner and gloss duo that’s ruled the 2020s has got a new name – The French tip lip combo – and we can never un-hear it.
Coined by TikTok user DaMenace, who captioned his post “idk what it’s called that’s the best way I can explain it,” he posted a video declaring: “You know what I love about the girls so much? When y'all doing that lil thing with your lips, when y'all put the outline on there with the lipgloss in the middle, giving like French tip lip combo? Oh my God…”
His comment has since gone viral with users posting their own French tip lip combos.
What is the French tip lip combo?
As described the French tip lip pairs a lip liner with a gloss on top. The trend isn't new (in fact, it's recycled from the ‘90s where it was hugely popular), but what differentiates it from other lip combos is that the “tip” or outline is more clearly defined around the edges of the lips to create a higher, more obvious contrast, like that of a classic French tip manicure.
One video posted by user Michaela Alexandra – which has scooped up nearly 300,000 views – saw her interpretation of the trend help crown its new name. “French tip lip liner is a crazy way to describe it, i love it 🤣” one user said. Another replied “French tip lip is the new name 🥰✨” to which Michaela responded “it's the only way to describe it now 😭”.
