We don't know why and we don't know how, but an emoji film is happening.
Sony Pictures Animation is producing the film, while Anthony Leondis will direct. Leondis previously worked on Lilo and Stitch 2 and Kung Fu Panda.
Three big Hollywood studios placed bids for the film, but Sony won through. The idea of the film is apparently very attractive in Hollywood because emojis are in the public domain, which means there were no rights to purchase.
No further details have been revealed yet, but we'll keep you posted. May it please include our favourite emojis - the embarrassed monkey and the laughing crying face. So very expressive.
