Every first Monday of May comes with a few shoo-in Met Gala red carpet attendees – including Emma Chamberlain, who has become one of those mainstay names over the past few years. As one of the red carpet hosts, she's known for her fun interactions with all the biggest names in fashion, film and music (anyone remembers that iconic Jack Harlow interaction from 2022?). But this year, she's also establish her spot as one of the best dressed – in a stunning look that was spot-on with the ‘fashion as art’ theme.
Walking the red carpet, Emma Chamberlain posed in a Mugler turtleneck gown reminiscent of a Van Gogh painting. Created in collaboration with her stylist Jared Ellner and Mugler's creative director Miguel Castro Freitas , the dress had a stunning, floor-grazing fringe detail on the sleeves. She paired it with navy platform high heels and accessorised with dangly canary yellow earrings. “There is sort of this watercolor feel, and I love watercolor painting,” she told Vogue. “But then also there’s a creepy, sort of ominous undertone to the gown, like the way that it moves. And that is very much my taste in art.”
As much as she’s become a key player in fashion, Chamberlain has also been one to experiment with beauty, able to kick-start major trends. Tonight was no exception: for her glam, she styled a platinum blonde mullet pixie in a spiky short style.
Over the years, Chamberlain has certainly been one to watch on the Met Gala red carpet, and not just because of her personality. She’s delivered some unforgettable and very on-theme looks, including the gown she wore last year, modelled like backless a suit for the “Tailored for You” dress code. In 2024, she stepped onto the steps in a sheer lace gown with an eye-catching train, evocative of decaying nature for the “Garden of Time” theme. To honour Karl Lagerfeld in 2023, she wore a custom blue suit set with a maxi skirt from Miu Miu. In addition to the matching headband, she coordinated her eye makeup to the picturesque pastel colour of her outfit. But it's the 2026 outfit that has undeniably become the pinnacle of Chamberlain's style evolution.
Chamberlain's gig on the red carpet comes at a transitional moment in her career. Just last month, she announced she'd be taking a pause from her podcast, Anything Goes. "I am taking a little podcast break," Chamberlain said. "I don't know how long the break's going to be. I wish I had answers for you. I don't have answers for you. I'm taking an indefinite podcast break." She's also just had a role in the film, Forbidden Fruits, alongside Lola Tung and Victoria Pedretti.
Chamberlain, 24, acknowledged the ending of the podcast felt abrupt, but said it was something she'd been thinking about for a long time. And while we don't know what the future holds for the burgeoning coffee entrepreneur, her look today is a sign she has some a fashion future ahead.
