Downton Abbey might have lost of a few of its most-loved characters but Michelle Dockery revealed that there's plenty to look forward to in the fourth series.

Her character Lady Mary Crawley became a widow and a mother in the Christmas Special as her husband Matthew was involved in a fatal car crash.

"It really shocked people and wasn't what they were expecting on Christmas Day," Michelle told TV Line.

The healing process involves a various suitors being thrown at her.

"She's very reluctant to go through with any of it because, of course, she can't stop thinking about Matthew. He's still very much a part of her thoughts. She'll never get over it.'

The actress certainly didn't seem sombre as she posed with her castmates at a PBS press event at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel on Tuesday.

Leading the British charge, Michelle wore Elie Saab black and grey short suit with a splash of vampy lipstick.

She opted for an unusual piano keys trim dress, while Sophia McShera (Daisy) wore a floral frock from Zara and Joanne Froggatt donned a red and navy brocade skirt by Camilla and Marc.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, Penelope Wilton and Allen Leech were filming scenes for the new series in the town of Bampton in Oxfordshire.

Penelope, who plays Isobel Crawley seems to have moved on from her widow's garb and Allen Leech was spotted filming scenes with Daisy Lewis, who is thought to be his love interest, following the death of Sybil.
