Downton Abbey viewers were in for a surprise during last night's episode. Despite warnings during the interval that the show would contain "shocking scenes", no one was quite prepared when a civilised dinner in the best Downton tradition turned into a blood bath.
Hugh Bonneville's character, The Earl of Grantham, has been complaining about his stomach for a few episodes now but viewers were left gob-smacked when he stood up at the dinner table, around which included the soon-to-be-Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, and vomited a spray of blood all over the tablecloth. He was OK in the end but Twitter reacted in classic fashion - see some of the best comments below:
