Netflix's latest period drama The Decameron has dropped, and we are super intrigued.
Set in the 1300s, it tells the story of a group of people who hole themselves up in an Italian villa to evade the Black Death.
“As the Black Death ravages Florence, a group of nobles and their servants retreat to the countryside Villa Santa,” the show's plot synopsis reads. "As they attempt to wait out the plague in the hills of Tuscany with wine and sex, the protagonists eventually must fight for their survival.
The series' cast is jam-packed with stars, so below we've tracked down what TV series or movies you might recognise them from.
Meet The Decameron cast
Here's what we know about the cast of Netflix's The Decameron, including where you might have seen them before.
Saoirse-Monica Jackson plays Misia
One of the famed and much-loved Derry Girls is taking on her next role.
According to TUDUM, Misia is said to be “the codependent servant of Pampinea (Zosia Mamet)". "Misia adores her demanding master and derives much self-worth from pleasing her”.
Saoirse herself has called her character the most “pathetic” character with the lowest levels of self esteem, but that doesn't mean we should underestimate her strength. You might also recognise the actor from The Flash and Upgraded.
Zosia Mamet plays Pampinea
Netflix's TUDUM has much to say about Zosia's character: “Soon to be the lady of the villa, Pampinea is full of hope and absolutely lacking in self-awareness.”
Zosia herself, though, believes that her character's state is due to “a manifestation of her anxiety about being married off”.
The actor has also appeared in The Flight Attendant, Girls and Madame Web.
Jessica Plummer plays Filomena
Jessica has appeared in EastEnders, as well as The After and The Girl Before, and will be taking on the “spoiled oddball” role of Filomena.
According to Netflix's character bio, “Filomena is a spoiled oddball with a chip on her shoulder and is the last surviving child of her noble family. She flees Firenze for her cousin’s home at Villa Santa with her handmaiden, Licisca. Filomena constantly likes to remind Licisca of their noble-servant dynamic.”
Tanya Reynolds plays Licisca
Tanya stole our hearts with her role as Lily in Sex Education, and has also appeared in Outlander and Emma.
She'll be working closely with Jessica Plummer on The Decameron, if her character bio is anything to go by. “An obedient yet unpredictable servant with a heart of bronze, Licisca was born into servitude and has spent her whole life at the bottom of the food chain working for Filomena’s family," it reads.
"While Filomena is cruel to her, Licisca stomachs it, does her job, and has remained devoted to the family she serves — until now.”
Tony Hale plays Sirisco
Sirisco hs been described as “is the affable, ill-prepared, and eager-to-please steward of Villa Santa”.
You might recognise Tony from Inside Out 2, Veep, Arrested Development or The Mysterious Benedict Society.
Leila Farzad plays Stratilia
Leila's character has been described as “intuitive, wise, and steady," as well as “the stalwart backbone of Villa Santa. The cook and servant of the house, she works hard to stay out of the fray and protect her secrets.”
The actor has previously starred in Black Mirror, I Hate Suzie and Better.
Amar Chadha-Patel plays Dioneo
Amar himself has described his character as a “medieval f**kboy”. Call us obsessed.
You may recognise him from Willow, The Wheel of Time and Flashback.
Lou Gala plays Neifile
We're intrigued by Neifile's character bio: “God-fearing and highly libidinous, Neifile is a woman of paradoxes. She wants to be the perfect believer, but her body is starting to say something else.”
Lou has also starred in A Mermaid In Paris, Julia and Secrets d'histoire.
Douggie McMeekin plays Tinardo
Hailing from a wealthy family, Douggie's character has been described "insufferable" with a “blunt disdain for women.”
You might recognise Douggie from Chernobyl and/or Harlots.
Karan Gill plays Panfilo
Karan's character Panfilo seems a particularly interesting one, according to his character synopsis.
“Panfilo is the charming and cunning son of a prominent political family in Florence,” it reads. “He comes to the villa in the hope of securing a future for himself and his wife, Neifile (Lou Gala). His entirely platonic marriage to Neifile is the elephant in the room of their relationship.”
Karan has appeared in I May Destroy You, Screw, Ladhood and Flesh and Blood.
