We love the Critics Choice Awards – a double dose of film and TV, it brings together leading ladies across our fave Netflix box sets and silver screen smash-hits, as well as honouring the important work done behind the scenes on costume design and hair and makeup.
As with the Golden Globes, the set-up was a little different this year. The main action took place in California’s Barker Hangar, where host Taye Diggs MC’ed the awards for the third year in a row. Category presenters (including Angela Bassett, Phoebe Dynevor, Jameela Jamil and Yara Shahidi) joined IRL or beamed in via video link alongside the nominees, meaning there was lots of glam to go round.
Unlike legacy awards (like the Oscars), the Critics Choice always tends to be more relaxed, with experimental makeup and bold hair choices and tonight was no different. Judas & The Black Messiah actress, Dominique Fishback, studded her side-parted hair with a pretty scattering of gemstones. Mank actress, Amanda Seyfried, went bright with fuchsia-pink lips. Schitt's Creek star, Annie Murphy, served up wet-look hair, gold liner and a matte red lip. Queen's Gambit actress, Anya Taylor-Joy, even did her own makeup with help from her makeup artist over Zoom. As for our fave look of the night, it came from Yara Shahidi who rocked blue liner with matching blue fabric woven through her knotted bun. Here are all of the best looks from the night...
