Copenhagen Fashion Week has officially wrapped, but I’m just starting to dive into everything I saw — including the city’s definitive, influential street style. This was my first time attending, and the crowds didn’t disappoint. After years spent parsing countless images and TikToks of these well-dressed women, I finally got to see the magic with my own eyes, and it’s true: The Scandi girls really are having more fun.
The year’s biggest fashion trends, including capris, elevated workwear and polka dots, were all well represented — but in Copenhagen, it’s how these trends are styled that’s particularly inspiring to me. I saw so many people taking fairly simple pieces and mixing them in ways that felt not only refreshing, but also distinct. In order to give you a sense of the local flavour (and predict where we’re going this fall and next spring), I pulled together the most popular street-style moments on my own personal Pinterest board. From plain flip-flops to romantic lace, these are the Copenhagen Fashion Week trends I’m most excited to try.

1. Who needs a belt?
No matter where I looked last week, someone had something tied around their waist. Sheer skirts, crocheted sarongs, silk scarves, vintage aprons, button-down shirts, even rope — anything with the ability to be knotted was layered over slim trousers, wide-leg jeans or flowy skirts. (Closer to home, Lola Tung is also a fan, it should be noted.) If you’re in the market for a scarf, I kept seeing ones from the buzzy Scandinavian brand Totême, but don’t be afraid to get creative with whatever you have lying around at home (or already in your cart).

2. Elevating humble flip-flops
Classic rubber flip-flops were among the most popular shoes of the week among show attendees, and I saw countless more on Copenhagen residents who had nothing to do with fashion week. The brand of choice? Havaianas, by a landslide. (Although I should note that “humble” might be a bit of a misnomer, given I saw at least two fellow fashion editors sporting The Row’s viral sandals, which have also been spotted on Jennifer Lawrence.) Styled with jeans, skirts, or dresses, the effect was the same: casual, slightly weird Scandinavian chic. Naturally, my pair of black Havaianas arrived today.
While polka dots might have been the most immediately visible print of the week, I couldn’t help noticing the crowd’s affinity for stripes. These weren’t muted pinstripes, though; the patterns leaned loud and even a little rugby-coded, with in-your-face colours and arresting sizes. (I found myself scrolling eBay for a vintage black-and-yellow striped tee after noticing an editor wearing a similar style to great effect.) Whatever you end up picking, just don’t be afraid to turn heads — that’s the whole point.
As silver jewellery continues to challenge the popularity of gold, showgoers at Copenhagen Fashion Week just ended up splitting the difference. Many pieces I noticed were designed distinctly with mixed metals, and seemingly everyone mixed their gold and silver baubles with abandon. Even I, someone who only ever wears silver, walked away convinced to throw a bit of gold into my daily rotation.

5. Modernising lace
As my colleague Madeline Dangmann pointed out, exaggerated lace trim popped up on just about everyone. While the satin camis and slip skirts could have read as sleepwear, the crowds in Copenhagen livened them up with smart styling: sporty nylon jackets or denim shirts up top, baggy jeans or knee-high boots below. (And thanks to all this layering, very little skin actually showed.) The effect was a little sultry and just a touch cheeky — exactly the right vibe for attending a fashion show or, say, meeting friends for brunch.
