Hello, you. Pull out your iPod Nano and queue up some Paramore, because Cardi B is taking us back to 2007! The rapper just threw it back to the emo kid era of soaring choruses, pop-punk guitars, and dip-dyed hair — and the colour combo is giving me serious millennial nostalgia.

The look appeared in a very unexpected place: a promo video for the fifth and final season of Netflix's You, starring Cardi's internet bestie Penn Badgely. (Google their friendship if you're not familiar.) Cardi, a fan of the show, teased the trailer wearing a very mid-aughts hair colour combo that would've been right at home on Hayley Williams or the local skate park. It began with bleached, platinum blonde roots, which then transitioned into a bright red-orange colour similar to Williams's signature shade.

The orange colour took up most of Cardi's mid-lengths, but instead of fading into a lighter ombré colour like you might expect, it transformed into a deep sapphire blue for a fun surprise. Orange and blue are on the opposite side of the colour wheel, making them complimentary colours, so that's why they look so striking together. Cardi paired the orange-and-blue hair with equally colourful nails in a neon turquoise hue and thick, fluttery lashes, her dermal piercing sparkling under her eyes.

Emo and pop punk-inspired hairstyles are part of Cardi's repertoire and it's so much fun to see her spin on the late-00s trends. We've seen her in thick, heavy side bangs; red-streaked Hot Topic pigtails; and even the polarising, chunky “raccoon hair” that was so popular on Myspace back in the day. And as for the trailer? Well, Cardi B says she was “shook” by it, so hopefully this means we'll get her take on the entire series when it drops. Or maybe a cameo?
