Bye Bye Beauty Rut

My days are spent writing about skincare breakthroughs, new hair products and the latest make-up looks - I am lucky enough to witness the world's greatest hairstylists and make-up artists create the most beautiful and inspiring new looks, and encourage you to try them out. Yet I am the least daring person when it comes to my make-up - I wear the same brown eye pencil, bronzer, blusher combination day in, day out (at night, I might throw on a shimmery eyeshadow and more mascara, but that's pretty much it). Talk about a rut - I am a walking beauty rut. When I teamed up with L'Oreal Paris to compile this beauty booklet [available with GLAMOUR's April issue], my own look started to seriously bore me. Nails Go Pop! (on page 32) made me try speckled nails instead of my usual barely there pink. I dyed my hair coppery red after reading Change Is In The Hair (page 10), and while shooting It's All About The Eyes, I felt compelled to add some colour to my make-up. I rediscovered how fun beauty is and though it might not be life-changing, it does feel great to step out of your comfort zone. So let's make a deal - try out at least one new thing after reading this and Tweet us a pic @GlamourMagUK #nomorebeautyrut and we'll feature them on GLAMOUR.com.

PS. While I loved my red hair, I did go back to my beloved ombre. Some changes are meant to last, others not. But that's the fun of make-up and hair - nothing is permanent. If you don't like it, you can change it!
