Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are getting a divorce after just 14 months of marriage.
Court documents for the divorce proceedings were filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles, which cited “irreconcilable differences” and stated that the couple separated just three weeks ago.
The filing stated that Asghari, who has been in a relationship with Britney for six years, intended to obtain financial support from the singer and have her pay for his lawyers.
However, a representative for Asghari has denied claims that he intends to challenge the pre-nup or release any videos exploiting Britney.
“I'd like to see a management team tell Jennifer Lopez to go through what I went through.”
“There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her,” Asghari’s rep, Brandon Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter.
Asghari took to Instagram on Thursday to post a statement about the split, writing on his Stories: “After six years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each and I wish her the best always. Shit happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Britney has yet to address the divorce publicly, but she has posted several times on social media since the documents were filed, including a post about wanting to buy a horse.
“Buying a horse soon!!! So many options it’s kinda hard !!! A horse called Sophie and another called Roar??? I can’t make up my mind,” she captioned an Instagram post on Thursday.

Two other posts appear to be rather cryptic, one is a video of a painting with the caption: “Sometimes you see more with your eyes closed!!!”
While the other is a picture of a drawing asking people how they ‘read’ the image. Britney appears to have turned off all comments on her Instagram posts.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari first met in October 2016 after Asghari appeared in one of her music videos. At the time, Britney was still under her father’s conservatorship which she remained in until 2021, the same year she and Asghari got engaged.
They got married in June 2022, in front of pals including Paris Hilton, Madonna, Selena Gomez, Donetella Versace and Drew Barrymore.
Neither party had confirmed the reason for the split at the time of writing.
