Dearest gentle reader, we come bearing some truly excellent news. Your favourite frothy Regency-era romance show is not nearly finished yet. Yes, Bridgerton season 5 is officially happening. And so, for that matter, is Bridgerton season 6. Ahead of season 4, Netflix has announced that the show will continue for at least another two seasons — which is music to our ears (music that sounds an awful lot like a string quartet rendition of a Pitbull song, by the way. IYKYK.)
The series is inspired by the romantic novel series by Julia Quinn — each novel follows a different sibling in the Bridgerton family as they navigate the social customs and mores of Mayfair's marriage mart. Season 1 saw eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) finding her love story with Simon (Regé-Jean Page); in season 2, Jonathan Bailey's Anthony had an epic enemies-to-lovers arc with Simone Ashley's Kate; and, for season 3, Colin (Luke Newton) finally realised his feelings for his long-time friend Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). Season 4 will see Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) falling for Sophie (Yerin Ha) in a Cinderella-inspired romance.
So, what’s on the cards for the next season? And when can we expect Bridgerton Season 5 to hit our screens?

When will Bridgerton season 5 be released?
We haven’t even made it through season 4, and already the ton is buzzing about what’s next. So, when can we expect Bridgerton season 5?
Season 4 began filming in the autumn of 2024, so if the current pace holds, season 5 could start production sometime in 2026 or early 2027. For now, Netflix is keeping all the juicy details tightly under wraps.
There’s no official premiere date yet, but if the series follows its usual pattern — with roughly a two-year gap between seasons — we might speculate that season 5 won’t debut until 2028.
What will be the love story for season 5?
The plot of season 5 will, of course, hinge on the central couple. So far, the show has taken some creative liberties with the books, swapping the order of the stories. In Julia Quinn’s novels, Benedict and Sophie’s romance comes before Colin and Penelope’s, but the series flipped that sequence for the screen.
The fifth book, To Sir Phillip, With Love, follows Eloise Bridgerton and Sir Phillip Crane — whom we first met as Marina’s husband back in season 2. This makes Eloise the most likely focus for the upcoming season.
That said, the team could also decide to tackle book 6, When He Was Wicked, which tells Francesca and Michael’s romance. Spoiler alert: In the novels, Francesca’s husband, John Stirling, dies, and she eventually falls for his cousin Michael, who has already been introduced in the show as Michaela.
Netflix has yet to officially reveal which Bridgerton sibling will take the lead in season 5, but all signs point to either Francesca or Eloise. At the season 4 red-carpet premiere, showrunner Jess Brownell gave fans a subtle hint — she sported two pocket squares embroidered with the letters “E” and “F.”

Speaking to Deadline on the carpet, she teased: “Both characters with the initials on my pocket squares will get seasons in 5 and 6. In what order? I can’t say.”
It’s a small detail, but it’s already got the ton buzzing with speculation about which Bridgerton sibling will take centre stage next.
Which cast will return for Bridgerton season 5?
The cast for season 5 has not yet been confirmed. However, it's likely we'll be seeing Claudia Jessie's Eloise and Hannah Dodd's Francesca taking prominent roles. Hopefully, many fan favourites will also return, including Luke Thompson (Benedict), Yerin Ha (Sophie), Nicola Coughlan (Penelope), Luke Newton (Colin), Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne), Jonathan Bailey (Anthony), Simone Ashley (Kate), and many more.
If it turns out to be Eloise’s season, expect a return of Chris Fulton as Sir Phillip Crane. And if it’s Francesca’s turn in the spotlight, we’ll be seeing more of Masali Baduza reprising her role as Michaela.
