The spring full moon is coming — it's the Blood Worm Moon, which falls in Virgo and coincides with a lunar eclipse on 3 March. You don’t need to be mystically minded to tune in to the power of a full moon (we all feel it), but this one should be more potent than most.

“This moon will ground you firmly in reality – your reality – asking you to look it right in the eye,” says Kirsty Gallagher, the UK's leading voice in modern-day spirituality, lunar guide and author of the multi Sunday Times bestselling book Lunar Living. “Do you like what you see? Is this how you pictured your life? For some of you, the answer is going to be a big yes, and everything will feel exciting as you get to put even bigger plans in place. For others, it will be an emotional ride as you wonder how you got here and need to delve into the reality of your situation and what changes need to be made.”

Read on to discover what part of your life this full moon is set to shake up and where you might find the focus you need to get the most out of your relationships in 2026.

What is a Worm Moon?

This month’s full moon is known as a Worm Moon, as its appearance in the skies historically coincided with a type of larvae that would emerge from tree bark at this time of year in North America. “This [time of year] is when earthworms emerge, and their trails appear in the thawing ground; also known as sap, crust, crow or wind-strong moon,” says Gallagher.

Its Celtic name was the Seed Moon or Storm Moon, again, names that signal a time of year where the first signs of spring might begin to emerge. This March, the full moon falls early in the astrological New Year, bringing potent energy and synchronicities to guide our next steps.

“The final full moon before the spring equinox, this full moon is a powerful portal for releasing and moving forward,” she says.

What sign does the Full Worm Moon fall in, and what does that mean?

This full moon falls within the star sign Virgo – the sign often associated with practicality, organisation and attention to detail. Virgo is also an earth sign, so get ready to feel grounded.

But the full moon in Virgo doesn't mean that you're going to be channelling your inner Monica Gellar, necessarily. It will actually encourage us to look inward and assess where we tend to exert too much control.

“This lunar eclipse is in controlling Virgo, so we need to bring some attention to that,” writes astrologer Francesca Oddie on Instagram. “Address where you obsess and control. Address why you need everything to be a certain way. Everything is a miracle… but you might miss the bliss if you’re too busy trying to be the world’s most perfect person.” Resonating much?

What is eclipse season, and what does it mean for this full moon?

We experience at least two eclipse seasons each year, bringing cosmic reboots, shake-ups and revelations. Eclipses are either lunar (where the Earth is between the sun and the full moon, blocking the reflection of light onto the moon’s surface) or solar (where the new moon is between the Earth and the sun, blocking the sun’s light). Depending on the type of eclipse (some are very low key) and where we are in the world, we might not always be able to see this, but we can usually feel the cosmic effects.

“This [full moon] is also a lunar eclipse, [so] it will bring a big energy of letting go of anything that we don’t want to take into a new astrological year with us,” says Gallagher. “As the healer of the zodiac, Virgo helps you to cleanse mentally, emotionally and physically, so that you can move into spring and the start of the astrological year and truly start anew.”

What makes the Worm Moon a blood moon?

A blood moon is essentially a total lunar eclipse, with this month's Worm Moon being known as a blood moon because of the deep, reddish colour that can occur during the eclipse.

So, what should I do to make the most of the Worm Moon eclipse energy?

Full moons are magical portals for both manifestation and release, but during eclipse season, many astrologers recommend laying off the manifestation rituals and just seeing what comes up for you instead. Pay attention to the feelings that come to the surface during this full moon eclipse and be honest with yourself about whether you’re holding back in a relationship that matters to you.

“All full moons bring a heightened energy and emotion, but the lead-up to this one could be bumpy, as she shows you where you have held back from making change and avoided letting go of the comfortable, familiar and what no longer serves you,” Gallagher says. “It brings a reality check and everything will suddenly become obvious to you: where you are, what you are doing, what you are allowing yourself to put up with, the gut feelings you are hearing/ignoring, the way your fears control you, what is weighing you down, where you are stuck and, most of all, what needs to change in order for you to be happy."

Easy full moon eclipse practices you can try include:

  • Journaling using the prompt ‘What is this eclipse trying to tell me about my relationships…’
  • Getting outside and moon bathing (charge your crystals while you’re at it!)
  • Paying attention to who shows up for you and who doesn’t over the next few days.
  • Taking some time out to process feelings that may arise.
