The designer's shows are consistently of epic, spectacle-like proportions with plenty of talking points for the fashion crowd to mull over and this was no different. The model line-up was a celebration of diversity, with Ditto strutting down the catwalk in a white 40s starlet-style gown, accessorised with a plethora of feathers.

He also enlisted model of the moments, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Lineisy Montero and actress and model Emily Ratajkowski - who made her catwalk debut.

It's been an eventful year for Jacobs - he closes his diffusion line Marc by Marc Jacobs and its co-creative directors, Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, left to launch their own label. But the audience, which included Sofia Coppola, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Debbie Harry, were still given the catwalk extravaganza they had hoped for.

The show was held at the Ziegfeld Theatre, with Jacobs' name emblazoned above the door in six-foot shining lights. The catwalk weaved in between velvet cinema seats and models walked down a red carpet. The collection itself was inspired by Americana, from baseball jackets to knit tank tops and plenty of American flag and star motifs.

It was as ever catwalk theatre as only Jacobs can do.
