Azealia Banks apologises for her Zayn Malik Twitter rant

Azealia Banks has apologised for last week's Twitter rant aimed at ex-One Direction star, Zayn Malik.

After recieving backlash from Twitter users the world over and getting her account suspended on the social media site after she unleashed a homophobic and racist tirade aimed at Zayn Malik last week, Azealia Banks has issued an apology.

Taking to Instagram, the rapper extended her "sincerest apologies" to the world.

She said in the apology, issued on Sunday night: "Employing racial/sexual slurs/stereotypes in attempts to make fun of or degrade another person or group is not fair or fun for anyone."

"Allowing my anger to get the best of me, I've managed to insult millions of people without reason. And for that I give my deepest apologies," she continued.

The festival, which specialises in grime and hip-hop music, made the announcement yesterday in a tweet.

They made their reasons clear, stating "we celebrate inclusivity and equality".

The drama started yesterday when Azealia Banks unleashed a Twitter attack on Zayn Malik after she accused him of copying some of her ideas in his new music video for Like I Would - released yesterday - saying it resembled her video for Yung Rapunxel.

Azealia Banks has unleashed a Twitter attack on Zayn Malik after she accused him of copying some of her ideas in his new music video for Like I Would - released yesterday - saying it resembled her video for Yung Rapunxel.

The tirade began after Banks posted a meme to her Instagram, which showed some similarities between her work and Zayn's.

Zayn then indirectly tweeted saying: "No lies ... I see you reaching but I don't care" followed by "My @'s too good for you".

The American rapper then went on to aim a series of racist tweets at Zayn, calling him a "sand n****r" and "Punjabi" among other things. She later made homophobic insults and spoke about Zayn's family.

Banks is known for taking her anger out on other artists on Twitter, having lashed out at Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and Beyonce in the past.
